The Measurement Error Random Utility Model

John Rehbeck, Woohun Son, Changkuk Im, Roy Allen

Working Paper

Updated:

This paper introduces the measurement error random utility model (MERUM) as a generalization of the standard random utility model. The model is characterized by an ɛ-Axiom of Revealed Stochastic Preference. The model introduces a natural measure of minimal measurement error needed for MERUM rationalization.

Degree of peer-review: EC'26 conference - advanced to 2nd round (reviewed by 3 anonymous referees, and got 2 borderlines, 1 weak rejection)

This paper develops a framework for identifying consumer preferences and budget distribution in discrete choice models where unobserved budget constraints determine consideration sets.

A Multinomial Based Test of Random Utility Models

Roy Allen, Changkuk Im, John Rehbeck, Woohun Son

Work in Progress

Updated:

This paper introduces a new measure of stochastic choice consistency for the random utility model (RUM) by allowing measurement error on choice probabilities, providing a statistical test for RUM violations.
